Team Radipole had a brilliant afternoon of football at Redlands on Friday 10th March.
The girls under the guidance of Miss Lusty played some fabulous football, only losing one game in the group stage, to reach the semi finals as 2nd place in their group. They had to play the winners of the other group but won the game convincingly to set up a final against Portesham. This was a very tough game and although the girls played brilliantly their more experienced opponents took the lead and won the game. Many of the girls will get another chance next year as they are in years 4 or 5 and there are some very promising players in year 3 coming through to add depth to the squad. Miss Lusty and Miss Hardy will continue to work with the girls and help them build on this super performance.
The boys had a very tough draw in the group stages but got off to a great start with a 0-0 draw against Dorchester Middle. They followed this with a 2-0 win against St Andrews, 2-1 win against St Osmonds and 1-0 over Ipaca to finish 2nd in the group on goal difference. This set up a semi-final against Wyke Regis ( who had easily won their group) which was a nail-biting affair. 0-0 at full time meant extra time and still neither team could get the vital golden goal. This meant a dreaded penalty shootout! Both keepers made some fantastic saves and it was level after 4 each. Wyke missed their last penalty which put huge pressure on Cory but he held his nerve and scored. Victory to Radipole and into the final against Dorchester Middle.
Although Radipole boys played brilliantly, they went behind and just couldnt get the vital goal to get back and after 2 years in residence in our trophy cabinet the Nash Cup has now gone over the ridgeway to Dorchester. Mrs Tilsed was extremely proud of all the players who played brilliantly as a team and worked so hard for each other.
There are still RSA 7 a side league games to play including Wyke on Tuesday 14th March at Radipole and away at Conifers on Friday 24th March.
There is also a 9 a side semi final against St Georges coming up very soon.
